Taos Thunderhead 16x20 $2000. Oil

Mark Daniels Bio.    I have always been drawn to the work of the Impressionists. While technically not a Western artist, I am a representational painter of the landscape where I live or travel. It is the spirit of these places that push me to be outdoors and to paint. My work is done in oil on canvas or linen. Much of it is done in plein air with finishing touches applied in the studio. For my studio work, I commonly refer to painted sketches made in the field. There is a meditative quality to the plein air approach that is very attractive to me as an artist. My style is dynamic and focused on the traditional concerns landscape painting.   I strive to realize my paintings as a harmony of color and decorative form. Fine art for me is a personal expression of aesthetic ideals in response to a life lived. My aim is to avoid copying nature and to express my visual sensations and emotional reactions to beauty.

As an artist, I strive to realize my paintings as a harmony of color and Decorative form, and not a collection of details colored in with little.  Thought given to the painting’s overall effect.  To achieve this synthesis,  I look at my motifs as a mosaic of colored patches representing light and Suggesting form.  Fine art, for me, is a very personal expression of one’s Aesthetic ideals in response to life lived.  My aim is not to copy nature,  but to express my sensations and reactions to its beauty.

“Art is a harmony parallel to nature.”  Paul Cezanne
